DESIGN CONTEXT

The Gélule medicine cabinet, designed by Fabrice Berrux and produced by Périgot, transforms the familiar shape of a pharmaceutical capsule into an expressive piece of wall-mounted furniture. Its elongated cylindrical silhouette, rounded ends and contrasting red and white surfaces give an everyday storage object a distinctive sculptural identity.

Originally conceived during the late 1990s, the Gélule design was subsequently introduced by Périgot in the 2000s. Known for its inventive reinterpretations of functional household objects, the French brand brought the design to a wider audience while preserving its playful character and practical purpose.

The cabinet is constructed in lacquered aluminium and opens through two curved doors, revealing a series of integrated shelves for storing medicines, toiletries or small personal objects. When closed, the two-tone exterior recreates the unmistakable appearance of a capsule, concealing its storage function behind a simple, graphic form.

Its design reflects an approach in which humor, functionality and visual clarity coexist. Rather than disguising an ordinary medicine cabinet with decorative details, Berrux completely reimagined its shape, turning a utilitarian object into a recognizable piece of contemporary French design.

This Périgot edition retains the original manufacturer and designer markings. It is preserved in good vintage condition, with scattered surface marks and slight deformation consistent with age and use. The cabinet measures approximately 58 cm high and 22 cm in diameter, based on the published specifications for this edition.
