This Italian Space Age table lamp, designed by Marina Malabotti during the 1970s, combines sculptural simplicity with expressive color and innovative plastic materials. Its distinctive silhouette reflects the experimental spirit of Italian lighting design, when everyday objects increasingly became decorative statements.
The lamp features a vivid orange pedestal base with softly contoured transitions between its circular foot and upper support. Above it sits a cylindrical diffuser in translucent white methacrylate. The contrast between the saturated orange structure and the luminous white volume creates a carefully balanced composition.
When illuminated, the diffuser produces a warm, diffused glow that emphasizes the lamp’s rounded geometry. Light also escapes through the upper opening, creating an additional play of illumination. The resulting radial reflections around the base give the lamp an atmospheric quality that extends beyond its compact proportions.
The design brings together several defining elements of 1970s Italian lighting: synthetic materials, simplified geometric forms and expressive color contrasts. Its combination of functionality and sculptural presence makes it particularly suitable for bedside tables, sideboards and intimate living spaces.
