This vintage Gedy laundry basket is a particularly striking example of the transformation of everyday bathroom objects that took place in Italian design during the 1970s. Rather than concealing its practical function, the design reduces the container to a bold cylindrical volume in glossy red plastic, punctuated only by two distinctive oval side handles.
The removable circular lid completes the almost geometric silhouette and provides a flat upper surface, allowing the piece to function not only as a laundry basket or generous storage container but also as an occasional stool. This combination of multiple domestic functions within a compact plastic form reflects the experimental and increasingly informal approach to interiors that characterized the period.
With a diameter of 33 cm and a height of 41 cm, the piece has enough presence to work beyond the bathroom: it can equally serve as storage for textiles, magazines or everyday objects in a bedroom or living space.
