This Space Age clock is a particularly graphic example of 1970s Italian domestic design, combining a sculptural plastic body with a bold dial in cream, turquoise, black and red.
The dial is unmistakably rooted in the 1970s. Oversized black numerals contrast with a turquoise circular field and geometric minute track, while the red central pivot and seconds hand introduce a sharp chromatic accent. The warm cream plastic surrounding it softens the composition and gives the clock its characteristic retro-futurist presence.
Its most distinctive feature is the dual configuration. Resting inside the hemispherical plastic shell, the clock becomes a compact table object with an almost planetary form. The clock itself can also be removed from the half-globe support and mounted directly on a wall, transforming the same object into a graphic wall clock. This versatility reflects the experimental approach to everyday objects that characterized Space Age interiors.
Completely original, the clock survives as both a functional timepiece and a distinctive example of the period’s fascination with plastics, strong graphics and adaptable domestic design.
