This Pino Spagnolo Sicart desk set brings together six glazed ceramic accessories conceived as functional objects with a remarkably strong graphic identity. Produced by SICART in Italy, the pieces explore different forms and uses while remaining visually connected through saturated blue, yellow and red glazes.
Rather than treating desk accessories as anonymous office equipment, Spagnolo gives each object an autonomous sculptural presence. Rounded lidded containers sit alongside the geometric model 391 pen holder, while the long red organizer combines five individual compartments with an open front tray. One of the yellow containers also incorporates a rear suspension element, suggesting an alternative use beyond the desktop.
The group includes documented SICART models 673, 391 and 388. Particularly significant is the blue model 391, which retains its original “Sicart – Designer Spagnolo” label, while the numbered pieces preserve their model markings on the base.
Seen as a complete set, the six pieces become especially compelling. Their glossy ceramic surfaces, elementary geometries and vivid primary colors reflect the playful experimentation that transformed everyday objects in Italian design during the 1970s. Functional individually and highly decorative together, they can be used for pens, stationery and small objects or simply arranged as a colorful ceramic composition.
Selected for our Editor’s Picks for the exceptional coherence of the complete group, where color, form and function come together in a particularly expressive example of 1970s Italian design.
