This orange Space Age desk lamp is a particularly vivid example of the playful approach to domestic lighting that emerged in Italy during the 1970s. Molded almost entirely in glossy orange plastic, it transforms the familiar task lamp into a compact sculptural object with an unmistakably futuristic character.
The design is built around a distinctive curved gooseneck support connecting the circular base to the directional shade. Articulated joints allow the arm and shade to change position and direct the light where needed, while the continuous orange finish visually unifies base, support and shade. Black hardware and wiring provide a sharp graphic contrast to the saturated plastic body.
Its broad flared shade gives the lamp a particularly expressive profile while concentrating the light onto a desk, bedside table or reading area. The combination of a compact footprint, directional illumination and multiple adjustment points makes the lamp as practical today as it is visually distinctive.
At only 30 cm high, the lamp reflects the period’s fascination with molded plastics, strong monochromatic color and adaptable everyday objects. Rather than disguising its functional components, the design makes articulation and movement part of its visual identity, resulting in a small object with considerable sculptural presence.
This example is particularly well preserved and remains entirely original, including its wiring, inline switch and European plug. The glossy orange plastic retains its vivid color and presents only light superficial scratches and minor traces consistent with age and use.
