Bring a touch of whimsy to your space with the Penguin Table Lamp, a delightful creation by Italian designer Fernando Cassetta in the 1970s. Part of his iconic animal-themed lamp collection for Tacman Manara, this charming piece combines playful design with the timeless appeal of mid-century modern aesthetics.
The lamp features a white opal glass lampshade, adorned with a striking black diamond decoration. Its unique silhouette is completed by black plastic feet, an orange plastic head, and white-and-black plastic eyes, giving the penguin its endearing personality. The lamp houses a vintage Bakelite E14 socket.
Fernando Cassetta, born in 1946, began his journey into playful design with the creation of his first lamp in May 1970—a dog named Rufus, inspired by his own pet. The success of Rufus led to a full collection of animal lamps, including the penguin, mouse, toucan, bear, and basset dog. These lamps are now celebrated as iconic examples of 1970s Italian design, blending humor, craftsmanship, and mid-century innovation.
Manufactured in Pastrengo, Verona, by Tacman Manara, this Penguin Lamp stands as a collector’s dream and a conversation piece for any modern interior. Whether placed on a bedside table, desk, or shelf, it adds a joyful touch while honoring the legacy of one of Italy’s most creative designers.
