The table container DIME designed by Marcello Siard for Collezioni Longato in the 70s represents a refined example of Italian plastic furniture from the Space Age era. Produced in durable Novodur, the piece reflects the experimental approach to materials that characterized much of Italian industrial design during the decade.
Its cubic shape and integrated wheels make it comparable to a plastic storage cube, typical of experimental Italian furniture of the 1970s. The object is conceived as a compact cubic volume with softly rounded edges, supported by four small chrome wheels that allow easy movement. The design combines the practicality of a cube storage table with the mobility of a small rolling container.
The table container DIME consists of a hollow body closed by a removable lid. This simple construction allows the piece to function simultaneously as a storage container, side table or small serving trolley. The restrained geometry and smooth surfaces emphasize the sculptural quality of the cube while preserving its everyday practicality.
The underside bears the embossed branding “DIME – Collezioni Longato – Made in Italy – modello depositato”, confirming the authenticity of the production.
Objects such as the table container DIME illustrate the Italian approach to plastic design in the 1970s, where industrial materials were used to create versatile domestic furniture with strong visual identity.
