The Pistillino vintage Italian wall lamp, designed by Studio Tetrarch for Valenti in Milan, is one of the most exuberant expressions of Italian lighting design from the 1970s. Its name — the diminutive of pistillo, or pistil — perfectly describes a composition inspired by the radiating structure of a flower.
A dense cluster of curved elements extends outward from the central body, each terminating in a spherical tip. Chrome surfaces multiply reflections from the central light source, while the colored spheres introduce playful flashes of green, yellow, orange, white and smoky tones. The result sits somewhere between botanical form, kinetic sculpture and Space Age experimentation.
The original rear plate identifies the model as Pistillino, designed by Studio Tetrarch and produced by Valenti, Milan, and specifies the use of a silver dome bulb up to 40W. A striking and unmistakably Italian piece in which light, reflection, color and repetition become part of the object itself.
This example has developed a particularly distinctive patina. The original chrome finish presents widespread losses and signs of wear, revealing different colors of the plastic beneath in several areas.
