This murano sommerso vase from the 1970s is defined by a precise geometric structure carved from solid layered glass. The sommerso technique allows the green core to remain suspended within clear crystal, creating depth and optical tension.
The faceted surface breaks and redirects light across multiple planes. Each angle reveals a different intensity of colour, from the saturated green center to the warmer amber undertones embedded within the glass mass. The effect is controlled and architectural rather than decorative.
The sculptural language and faceted geometry are stylistically inspired by the work of Flavio Poli for Seguso, reflecting the architectural approach to glass design developed in Murano during the mid to late twentieth century. Clean lines and balanced proportions give the vase a strong and measured presence.
Placed in an interior, the murano sommerso vase functions as a light object as much as a container. It interacts with natural and artificial light, shifting continuously depending on position and time of day.
It pairs naturally with other geometric Murano works exploring density and transparency, such as this glass prisms chandelier.
