DESIGN CONTEXT

This rare French Space Age mirror was produced during the 1970s and reflects the experimental use of translucent plastics developed in European futuristic interiors of the period. Identified as model 710 and marked Modèle Déposé, the piece combines sculptural simplicity with a strong atmospheric presence.

The circular mirror is framed by a thermoformed ultramarine blue plastic structure with continuous self-supporting construction and no visible metal elements. The frame features a variable section, thicker at the top and progressively thinner toward the lower part, enhancing the perception of depth and giving the object a fluid architectural profile.

The translucent blue plastic softly filters and diffuses light around the mirror, creating subtle tonal variations depending on the surrounding environment. This material-driven effect is characteristic of French Space Age production, where plastics became central to the visual identity of domestic objects.
