This pair of dime storage cube tables designed by Marcello Siard for Collezioni Longato in the 1970s represents an interesting example of Italian plastic furniture from the Space Age period. Produced in durable Novodur plastic, the objects reflect the experimental approach to materials that characterized much of Italian industrial design during the decade.
The design takes the form of a compact cubic volume with softly rounded edges, supported by four small chrome wheels that allow easy movement. Each container is closed by a removable lid, transforming the cube into a versatile domestic object that can function as a storage container, side table or small serving trolley.
The present pair combines two contrasting finishes — off white and dark brown — highlighting the sculptural geometry of the design while allowing the pieces to integrate easily into different interior settings. Their compact proportions make them suitable as bedside tables or mobile storage elements.
The underside of each piece bears the embossed marking “DIME – Collezioni Longato – Made in Italy – modello depositato”, confirming the authenticity of the production.
Objects such as the dime storage cube illustrate the Italian approach to plastic furniture in the 1970s, where industrial materials were used to create versatile domestic objects with a strong visual identity. For more pieces from this period, explore our curated selection of Space Age Icons.
