This vintage Space Age wall clock by Stärke is a particularly graphic expression of 1970s German design. Its softly rounded ivory plastic case projects outward from the wall, transforming a functional clock into a compact sculptural object with the aerodynamic profile typical of the Space Age period.
The restrained outer shell provides a striking frame for the deep black dial. Oversized cream Arabic numerals are arranged around a precise minute track, while broad matching hands and a slender red seconds hand create a strong, highly legible composition. A chrome-finished bezel adds a reflective element between the dark dial and the warm ivory body.
Particularly interesting is the original battery-powered electromechanical movement preserved at the rear. This technology belongs to the transitional period between traditional mechanical clockmaking and the quartz movements that would soon dominate domestic clocks. Comparable Stärke clocks from the 1970s are documented with German electromechanical movements, including examples using Junghans ATO-Mat mechanisms.
