A rare pair of Italian Space Age coat hanger designs by Goffredo Reggiani from the 1970s. Sculptural chrome structures combine with smoked mirror glass and bakelite frames, creating functional wall pieces with a strong Bauhaus-inspired identity.
This rare space age coat hanger was designed by Goffredo Reggiani and produced in Italy during the 1970s, a period marked by experimentation, expressive materials and sculptural approaches to everyday objects. Far from a conventional wall hook, this design integrates function and reflection, turning a utilitarian element into a strong architectural feature.
The coat hanger is defined by a curved chromed metal support that develops into a spiral form, resting against a smoked mirror surface. The mirror panel is framed by thick brown bakelite side elements, a material choice deeply rooted in Space Age and late Bauhaus-inspired design. The reflective surface enhances the dynamic geometry of the chrome structure, creating depth and visual rhythm on the wall.
Although Goffredo Reggiani is internationally known for his lighting production, this coat hanger with mirror represents a rarer and less documented part of his work. Founded in Monza in 1957, the Reggiani company was driven by the designer’s personal vision, with most projects conceived directly by him. Today, his designs are highly collectible and increasingly sought after.
This space age coat hanger piece is offered in very good vintage condition. Minor scratches are present on the bakelite side frames, with small marks and light spotting on the mirrored surface. Previous oxidations on the metal have been carefully removed, leaving only minimal traces consistent with age and use. Two pairs are available, allowing for a modular or symmetrical wall installation.
